Speaking APTIS
¿Cómo es la prueba de expresión oral (SPEAKING) de Aptis?
El componente de expresión oral (Speaking) de Aptis pone a prueba tu capacidad para comunicarte en inglés y está diseñado para ponerte en diferentes situaciones de la vida real.
Dura unos 12 minutos y se divide en cuatro secciones. Tus respuestas serán grabadas y calificadas por examinadores del British Council.
¡Es importante saber que el examen de Speaking se hará por ordenador y las respuestas tuyas se quedaran grabadas!
¡Vamos a ver las partes del Speaking y que tendrás que hacer en cada una de ellas!
APTIS SPEAKING PART 1
APTIS SPEAKING PRACTICE TEST 1
SPEAKING APTIS. Parte 1: Preguntas sobre ti/ tus intereses/ familia etc…
Se te harán tres preguntas sobre ti y sobre tus intereses/familia/ tiempo libre/ el tiempo etc. Tendrás que hablar durante 30 segundos por cada pregunta.
EJEMPLO APTIS SPEAKING PART 1
- Please tell me about your family. (30 segundos)
Well, it´s not easy to describe my family in 30 seconds, but I´ll try me best. Let me see! I´ve got two sisters and one brother. We live in Granada and we have a nice flat near the city centre. I love my place because we have a terrace which is quite big and I have enough room for my pets. We spend most of our free time together as a family. We usually go out for dinner and spend a lot of time outdoors. My family is the whole world to me. I love my parents and my siblings more than anything in this world.
- Tendrás que describir tu familia en unos 30 segundos, lo que no es realmente fácil porque siempre queremos decir muchas cosas, pero hay que pensar en un resumen. De hecho, fíjate como se empieza en el ejemplo: (Well, it¨s not easy to describe my family in 30 seconds, but I´ll try me best. Let me see!)
- Se puede mencionar cuantos miembros hay en tu familia, donde vives con ellos, si tienes o no mascotas y que os gusta hacer juntos como familia. (I´ve got two sisters and one brother. We live in Granada and we have a nice flat near the city centre. I love my place because we have a terrace which is quite big and I have enough room for my pets. - Para finalizar tu respuesta, podrás expresar tus sentimientos hacías ellos: (My family is the whole world to me. I love my parents and my siblings more than anything in this world.)
- ¡Este solo es un ejemplo, así que intenta hacer el tuyo y ver cómo te ha quedado! Puedes también decir a que se dedican los miembros de tu familia o lo que quieras tu mencionar sobre este tema.
2. What do you like doing in your free time? (30 segundos)
In my free time, I like listening to music. I wish I could do it all day. I also love watching movies and TV series. Moreover, I have to say that I´m interested in languages. That´s why I usually watch movies in original version. However, I sometimes make time to read some books, but just when I can. I enjoy reading novels. One of my other interests is travelling. When I have the chance I travel a lot. I also love meeting my friends/ I also love hanging out with my friends.
SOME TIPS:
- Como vas a hablar sobre que te gusta hacer en tu tiempo libre, debes prestar atención a los verbos love y like. Después de estos verbos, tendrás que utilizar el ing. Fíjate en los siguientes ejemplos: I like listening to music, I love meeting my friends etc.
- Para expresar tus gustos puedes utilizar: I love+ vb ing, I like+ vb ing, I¨m interested in, I make time to+ infinitivo, etc.
- Intenta mantener tu respuesta clara y te aconsejamos que hagas las frases más cortas, pero correctas. Podrás tener la ayuda de las siguientes frases para expresarte mejor: Moreover, I have to say that, That´s why I…, When I have the chance I…, I also love etc…
- Intenta añadir algún phrasal verb: I also love hanging out with my friends.
- Otra frase muy útil es: I wish I could do it all day. (Ojalá podría hacerlo todo el día).
3. What´s the weather like today? (30 segundos)
Today, the weather is quite nice. It’s 22 degrees Celsius, but I have to say that I live in Granada and here it is really hot in summer time, but cold in winter time. To be honest, we are lucky because in Spain the weather is mostly nice, but as many people say, it also depends on the area you live in. I mean, in the north it might be pouring right now. I would also like to point out that the weather can change our mood.
SOME TIPS:
- Ya que tendrás que hablar durante 30 segundos sobre el tiempo (the weather), un truco seria ampliar tu respuesta. Es decir, puedes empezar hablando sobre la temperatura que hace hoy en tu ciudad, pero luego tendrás que añadir otras ideas porque si no, tu respuesta se quedara demasiado corta.
- Por lo tanto, en el ejemplo veras que se puede hablar sobre el tiempo que hace en varias zonas del país: I mean, in the north it might be pouring right now/ Lo que quiero decir es que quizás en el norte del país estará lloviendo a cantaros ahora mismo).
- Incluso podrás decir añadir una idea general sobre el tiempo, como, por ejemplo: (the weather can change our mood/ El tiempo puede cambiar nuestro ánimo).

APTIS SPEAKING PART 2 PICTURES
SPEAKING Parte 2: Describir, opinar, dar razones y explicaciones.
Se te pedirá que describas una fotografía y luego tendrás que responder a dos preguntas sobre el tema de la fotografía.
Las preguntas te pedirán que hables de tu propia experiencia sobre el tema y que comentes algún aspecto más general del mismo.
En esta parte tienes que hablar durante 45 segundos por cada una de las 3 preguntas.

EJEMPLO:
- Please describe this photo. (45 segundos).
Firstly, I would like to say/point out that this picture people visiting a museum. (La actividad principal).
I think that, in the foreground there are two people: a mother with her daughter.
Moreover, I get the impression that in the background there is a museum showcase.
In my honest opinion, these people are feeling happy/ elated / over ther moon because they are learning new things.
This picture reminds me of my childhood.
In addition, they are indoors.
Finally, I would like to mention that in this picture the little girl seems to be pointing at something.
SOME TIPS:
- En primer lugar, te recomendamos que menciones en tu descripción algunos conectores como: Firstly, Moreover, In addition, However, Finally, etc.
- Para la descripción de la foto, deberías organizarte con algunas estructuras para expresar tu opinión: I think that, In my humble opionion, I believe that, etc.
- No olvides utilizar algunas estructuras como: in the foreground (en primer plano), in the background (en la parte de atrás), in the middle of the picture, etc.
- Speculation: ya que se puede especular sobre la foto, te recomendamos utilizar también las siguientes estructuras: I get the impression that, it seems to me, etc.
- ¡Si! Si te aparecen gente en la foto, puedes hacer suposiciones sobre sus sentimientos: In this picture people are feeling happy/ elated/ over the moon, etc.
- Otro truco muy útil seria decir que la foto te recuerda a algo. Es muy común que las fotos nos recuerden a algo, así que esta frase es muy útil: This picture reminds me of…
- Para un nivel más alto, te aconsejamos añadir algún phrasal verbs como: I would like to point out.
- Presta atención a tu pronunciación.
- Grábate y comprueba que puedes hacerlo en 45 segundos.
2. Tell me about a time you visited a museum. (45 segundos).
Last time I visited a museum was three years ago. I have to say that I went to London and I had the chance to visit the Imperial War Museum. On the one hand, it was a great experience because I love history and learning about our past. On the other hand, as many people know, visiting a museum can also be tiring. However, I´m also of the opinion that we should visit those museums and monuments we have in our cities because they are part of our heritage. Finally, I do believe that I should have visited more museums.
SOME TIPS:
- Fíjate bien en el tiempo verbal. En este caso te preguntan sobre tu pasado, entonces asegúrate que vas a contestar usando el pasado: Last time I visited a museum was three years ago.
- En esta pregunta debes improvisar tu respuesta y hablar sobre tu propia experiencia, pero puedes también hacer referencia en general a la opinión de la gente sobre este tema. Ejemplo: as many people know, visiting a museum can be tiring.
- Utiliza estructuras como en las demás partes del Speaking: I have to say that, On the one hand, On the other hand, However, Finally, I do believe that…
- Puedes intentar añadir algunas estructuras gramaticales como los past modals: I should have visitied more museums. (Yo debería haber visitado más museos).
3. Do you think that people should pay to visit museums, or should they be free? (45 segundos).
In my humble opinion, museums should be free because we have the right to learn about our past and we should not pay for it. As far as I´m concerned, we have the responsability to learn about our ancestors, understand really well some mistakes in order not to repeat them. Having said that, people should understand this fact, but instead of paying entrance fees, they should help to maintain this place clean. I mean, there should be a way to keep the costs of museums, but we should not pay for it. In a nutshell, museums should be free for us.
SOME TIPS:
- Ya que en este apartado debes expresar tu opinión sobre algún asunto del tema relacionado con la foto, te recomendamos seguir con el uso de las estructuras para expresar opinión: As far as I´m concerned, In my humble opinion, I mean that…, I really believe that, etc.
- Para finalizar tu respuesta, puedes añadir: In a nutshell, (En pocas palabras/En resumen…).
- Debes intentar hablar durante unos 45 segundos, así que grábate a ti mismo porque depende muchísimo del ritmo de cada uno hablando en inglés.
- Esta respuesta es solo un ejemplo. No significa que es una opinión real del asunto. ***Puedes inventar tus argumentos, pero intenta expresarlos con mayor fluidez posible. ***
- Presta atención a tu: pronunciación, vocabulario y fluidez más que en intentar traducir tu opinión/pensamiento real del español al inglés. Piensa tu respuesta en inglés, es decir, intenta utilizar algunas estructuras mencionadas más arriba.
APTIS SPEAKING PART 3
APTIS SPEAKING TEST PART 3
SPEAKING: Parte 3: Describir, comparar, dar razones y explicaciones.
Se te pedirá que compares dos fotografías y que respondas a dos preguntas más sobre el tema de las mismas.
Las preguntas te pedirán que compares algún aspecto del tema y que expreses una opinión o hacer algunas suposiciones sobre el mismo.
De nuevo, tendrás que hablar durante 45 segundos por cada una de las 3 preguntas.
APTIS SPEAKING PART 3 EXAMPLES
EJEMPLO:
- Please tell me what you see in the two pictures. (45 segundos).
Firstly, I would like to say/point out that these pictures show two types of sports but they are completly/very different because in the first one it seems to me that there is a guy/man/person playing golf, while/whereas in the second one there are three people playing basketball.
Moreover, in my humble opinion, in the first picture the man might be feeling concentrated while in the second one they might be having fun together. On the other hand, I also suppose that in both images the weather is really nice because they are wearing short-sleeves.
Finally, I would like to mention/highlight that in both pictures people are outdoors. In my experience, both sports require a lot of training and effort.
SOME TIPS:
- Podrás seguir con algunos de los TIPS de la Parte 2 y podrás utilizar algunas estructuras similares como: Firstly, I would like to say/point out that these pictures show, Moreover, In my humble opinion, On the other hand o incluso las de speculation: they might be having fun, I suppose, etc
- La gran diferencia es que, en este caso, tendrás que comparar dos fotos, así que asegúrate que vas a mencionar aquellas ¨palabras¨/ estructuras para comparar dos situaciones: while/ whereas (mientras que), in both pictures, completely different, etc.
- Tendrás que mencionar algunas diferencias y algunas similitudes. Como has podido ver en el ejemplo, puedes hablar sobre:
- La actividad principal (Firstly, I would like to say/point out that these pictures show two types of sports).
- Puedes especificar los dos tipos de deporte: (in the first pictue it seems to me that there is a guy/man/person playing golf, while/whereas in the second one there are three people playing basketball).
- En este caso, en ambas fotos hace buen tiempo, así que también puedes hablar sobre el tiempo (On the other hand, I also suppose that in both images the weather is really nice).
- Si al final ya te has quedado sin ideas y aun no has llegado a los 45 segundos, podrás expresar tu opinión sobre los dos tipos de deportes: (In my experience, both sports require a lot of training).
2. What kind of people play these two sports? (45 segundos).
Well, let me think about it. It is a difficult question: What kind of people play these two sports? To be honest, I have never thought about it. However, if I had to describe those people who play golf, I would say that they probably like this sport because it makes them feel relaxed and stress free. I suppose this type of people also enjoy the fresh air and the beautiful countryside. On the other hand, basketball players might choose to play it because they like team-sports. I think they are team-players type. In my opinion, this sport is not expensive and they can find a basketball court easily in their city.
SOME TIPS:
- Un truco muy útil para darte tiempo y pensar un poco en tu respuesta, es empezar con alguna frase similar a: Well, let me think about it. It is a difficult question…
- Incluso si puedes ver que la pregunta es bastante difícil y te quedas sin saber que decir puedes repetir la pregunta y mencionar que nunca habías pensado en este asunto realmente: What kind of people play these two sports? To be honest, I have never thought about it.
- Ahora que ya te has dado el tiempo necesario para pensar, puedes empezar decir tu opinión.
3. Which of these two sports is more difficult to play? Why? (45 segundos).
Personally speaking, if I had to choose one of these sports/options/ pictures, I would choose the second one because on the one hand, I have been playing basketball since I was a child. On the other hand, it is well-known that golf is more expensive than basketball. Moreover, in my experience, playing in a team has a lot of benefits. I mean, sports teach us how to work in a team and there are a lot physical health benefits. Furthermore, doing sports can boost our self-esteem and it reduces pressure and stress. Without any doubt, if I were in your shoes, I would do sports every single day.
SOME TIPS:
- En la parte tres del Speaking, posiblemente tendrás que elegir una de las dos situaciones que aparece en las fotos. Así que, para contestar a esta pregunta, te recomendamos utilizar un condicional para incluir esta parte de gramática en tu speaking: Personally speaking, if I had to choose one of these sports/options/ pictures, I would choose the second one because (el condicional: Si tuviera que elegir un deporte/una de estas situaciones, yo elegiría la segunda opción porque…).
- Ya que son 45 segundos, intenta argumentar tu respuesta, mencionando el porqué de tu elección. Para ampliarla, puedes hablar sobre tu experiencia haciendo este tipo de deporte y los beneficios que tiene al elegir uno de ellos: (in my experience, playing in a team has a lot of benefits. I mean, sports teach us how to work in a team and there are a lot physical health benefits).
- ¡No olvides aquellos conectores que te ayudaran!: Moreover, Furthermore, Without any doubt, Personally speaking etc
- Intenta añadir alguna expresión. Aquí te dejamos una como ejemplo: (if I were in your shoes, I would do sports every single day = si yo fuera en tu lugar, yo haría deporte cada día).
APTIS SPEAKING PART 4
APTIS ADVANCED SPEAKING PART 4
SPEAKING. Parte 4: Hablar sobre algún tema relacionado con experiencias personales y expresar tu opinión sobre un tema ¨abstracto¨.
Se te formularán tres preguntas sobre un mismo tema y se te dará un minuto para preparar la respuesta. En esta parte cuarta, te pondrán una foto, pero no debes describirla. Esta foto te ayudara entender de qué trata el tema de tu discurso.
Durante 1 minuto vas a poder tomar apuntes, pero breves y luego podrás utilizarlos para estructurar tu respuesta y seguir tus ideas.
Tendrás que hablar durante dos minutos sobre las 3 preguntas. Esta parte se puede considerar como un discurso corto durante 2 minutos.
APTIS SPEAKING PART 4 EXAMPLES
EJEMPLO:
- Tell me about a time when you were on your own.
- How did you feel about it?
- What are some of the ways of passing the time on your own?
Firstly, I would like to mention that spending time on our own is extremely important in our lives. In fact, I do believe that we should all spend more time on our own. From my point of view, we can learn many things about ourselves.
Moreover, as for the first question, I was on my own last summer. Honestly, I believe that I had a great time on my own because I could do the things I really wanted. Although many people think that being alone is something frustating, in my experience, it wasn´t that bad. However, I also want to point out the importance of spending time with our familes and friends. So, don´t get me wrong! There is no brainer that everybody needs those friends to rely on, but we should also learn to spend the time on our own.
Moving on to the next question, I have to say that in my case I felt excited and I was on cloud nine thinking that I can do whatever I wanted! 😊 In fact, people might feel miserable if they spend time on their own. Yeah, I was excited at the beginning, but without any doubt, I also have to recognise that I missed my family and friends. Despite all the benefits, I do have to remark that sharing our time with others can change our life for the better!
Finally, in my humble opinion, I think that reading books, watching TV series, going for a walk or taking photos are just some ways of passing the time on our own. However, everbody should choose those activities that make them feel the luckiest person in the whole world.
SOME TIPS:
- La parte cuarta del Speaking es la más larga y tienes que intentar hablar durante los 2 minutos.
- Intenta aprovechar bien el minuto que tienes a disposición para pensar. Es decir, intenta elegir una experiencia sobre la cual te resulte muy cómodo hablar y a la misma vez que te dé la posibilidad de tener varias ideas que expresar.
- ¡Mantén tus apuntes breves! Un minuto se pasa volando y no tendrás tiempo para escribir frases enteras.
- Fíjate como en el ejemplo existen muchas estructuras para organizar el discurso. Inténtalo tú también. Ejemplos:
Introducción: Firstly, I would like to mention that … (En primer lugar, me gustaría mencionar que…).
Pregunta 1: Moreover, as for the first question, (Además, en cuanto a la primera pregunta…).
Pregunta 2: Moving on to the next question, I have to say that (Paso a la siguiente pregunta y tengo que decir que…).
Pregunta 3: Finally, in my humble opinion (Finalmente, en mi honesta/humilde opinión…).
- Intenta utilizar algunas frases útiles para expresar tu opinión y tu experiencia: From my point of view (desde mi punto de vista), Personally, I think that… (Personalmente, creo que…), It seems to me that (Me parece que…), Honestly, I believe… (Honestamente, creo…), The way I see it is that… (La manera en la que lo veo yo es que…), In my opinion (en mi opinión), In my experience (En mi experiencia) …etc.
- ¡Si quieres impresionar el examinador con algunas expresiones, podrás hacer uso de ellas en esta parte! Fíjate como en el ejemplo aparecen algunas: So, don´t get me wrong! There is no brainer, I was on cloud nine…
- Grábate a ti mismo hablando e intenta mejorar tu vocabulario y tu pronunciación. Para preparar esta parte, grábate hablando con la mayor fluidez posible durante uno o dos minutos. Puedes elegir algunas experiencias propias.
